Resolution!

Is it too early to make a New Year's Resolution? I think not! I really want to learn how to sew! Why I never took a home economics class in school I don't know why?! Well, I was too busy playing basketball to ever think that at some point in my life I might need to learn how to sew a button on a shirt, make Barbie clothes for Jaycee, or do other wonderfully creative things! I attended a huge arts and craft show in Oklahoma City last week. It had such cute creative things on display! Lots of the the items are very over priced, but still they are very cute and if I knew how to sew I could totally make the things I saw. I don't think I would ever make it a business type thing, but just to make things that are fun and out of the ordinary especially for birthday, baby shower, and wedding shower gifts. I can say that I am beginning to recognize that I do have a little bit of creativity in me. This coming Sunday 5 ladies and myself are giving a good friend of ours a baby shower. She is having a little girl. The nursery is black and white polka dots with accents of light pink! ADORABLE!!! So we decided to keep the same theme for the shower. I am in charge of the decorations for the shower. The centerpieces for the table are simple, but so cute! I took diapers that I had leftover from Jaycee (yes Jaycee she got up to a size 6) rolled them up, placed a rubber band around them, then took black and white polka dot ribbon to tie around the diaper to cover up the rubber band. Then I took a very thin piece of light pink ribbon and tied it through the knot of the black and white polka dot ribbon. To finish it off I bought artificial light pink Gerbera Daises and placed one in each of the rolled up diapers. I can't wait to see them on the tables. We are using black tablecloths, with the diaper centerpiece, then we have light pink jewels to place around the diaper. I also, with the help of my sweet friend Serah, made a onesie with the ribbon ironed on with a Gerbera Daisy sewn on the front. We added a round pink rhinestone to the middle of the flower make it even more adorable. Allison can put her precious baby in this onesie or just hang it on the wall in her room! The last major project was making a name board to hang up in the nursery! It turned out super cute as well! Its so much fun to make things! Its obviously fun to shop and buy things, but there is something different about making something! I guess for me its realizing that I can be creative and I can make the cute fun stuff. It is really a lot more fun to put the effort into creating a one of kind type of gift for a loved one! I LOVE IT!!! I am really looking forward to expanding my creativity skills.

I will post pictures of the stuff from the shower on Sunday evening or Monday morning. I don't think my friend Allison reads our blog, but I would hate for her to see the stuff for her shower on my blog, before her actual shower!!!
